PATIENT GUIDE

Understanding your laboratory report

Your report is one part of your health information.

READ THE REPORT WITH CONTEXT

A result is part of a bigger picture.

Select a part of this conceptual report to understand the next question to ask.

Look at the report with your clinician

A clinician combines laboratory findings with your history, symptoms and other examinations. A result alone may not explain the full picture.

Ask what the terms mean

Reports may describe findings as positive, negative, normal, abnormal or uncertain. The meaning depends on the specific test and the clinical question.

Bring the right questions

Ask what was measured, whether anything needs clarification and what the next step should be. If a result is unexpected, ask the ordering team to explain it.

Use the existing results portal

Pure’s results link takes you to its VitalAxis portal. Contact the laboratory for access questions and your ordering clinician for interpretation.

Questions to bring to your next conversation

  • What does this result mean in my situation?
  • Does it answer the question we started with?
  • Is additional testing or follow-up needed?
  • When should we discuss the next step?
